On April 23, the Party Committee of the School of Marxism of Shenzhen University organized faculty and student Party members to step off campus and take part in a "walking ideological and political course." Prof. Wang Hong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Shenzhen University and Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism, delivered the spring semester's "First Ideological and Political Course" to students at the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall. The faculty and student Party members then went to Yangmeikeng for a themed Party Day activity. Also taking part were Wang Ping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism, counselor Bian Kebing, and more than 40 faculty and student Party member representatives.
Under the theme "Casting the Soul beneath the Banyan, Seeking Strength from the Sea: Establishing a Correct View of Political Achievements and Striving to Be New Youth in Building a Maritime Power," Secretary Wang Hong delivered the lecture under a century-old banyan tree beside the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall. Grounded in the School's disciplinary strengths and its educational mission, she took red history as her textbook and the mission of the times as her guide, organically combining the Marxist stance, viewpoints and methods with the revolutionary spirit of the Dongjiang Column and the strategy of building a maritime power. She noted that the view of political achievements is a concrete expression of the Marxist worldview, outlook on life and values, and is not only a required course for Party members and officials but also the "pole star" by which students of the School of Marxism temper their character and calibrate their course.
In her lecture, Secretary Wang Hong, closely following the identity of students of the School of Marxism as "students of theory, disseminators of ideas and practitioners of faith," encouraged everyone to take the revolutionary forebears as their benchmark and establish a correct view of political achievements: to discard "empty efforts" in pursuit of "real achievements," deepening their grounding in Marxist theory and aligning academic research with national needs; to discard "short-sightedness" in pursuit of the "long view," upholding resolve and resilience in theoretical research and approaching scholarship and self-cultivation with sustained effort; and to discard the "small self" to embrace the "greater self," integrating personal theoretical pursuits into the broader cause of national rejuvenation and the building of a maritime power. She stressed that students of the School of Marxism should serve as transmitters of the Party's innovative theories, inheritors of the red spirit and doers in building a strong country, translating their grounding in Marxist theory into the practical ability to serve national strategies and demonstrating youthful responsibility in ideological and political education and the dissemination of theory.
After the lecture, all the faculty members and students entered the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall for immersive experiential learning. The historical photographs, documentary manuscripts, revolutionary artifacts and reconstructed scenes on display presented in full the glorious course of the Dongjiang Column's bloody struggle and loyalty to the people. Pausing to listen to the guide and studying the historical materials closely, the faculty members and students of the School drew inspiration from vivid red memories, coming to appreciate the firm beliefs and devotion to family and country of the revolutionary forebears. They closely combined the Dongjiang Column spirit with the study of Marxist theory and the practice of ideological and political education, deepening their theoretical understanding of the Party's original aspiration and founding mission and of the red genes through on-site experiential study, and further fortifying the foundation of their faith and replenishing the calcium of their spirit.
Afterwards, all the faculty members and students went to Yangmeikeng for a themed Party Day hiking activity. Along the way, walking the mountain-and-sea trail, they built up their physical fitness and relaxed both body and mind while exchanging views and holding discussions on the content of the Party lecture, theoretical study and professional practice, turning theoretical reflection from the classroom into an encounter of ideas along the trail and fully demonstrating the spirit of the School's faculty and students in uniting knowledge with action and pressing on with unwavering commitment. Walking hand in hand and encouraging one another, they tempered their willpower and character and strengthened team cohesion, moving ideological and political education from "listening in class" to "experiencing in practice" and enriching the substance of the School's practice-based education.
This activity integrated red resources, theoretical teaching and practical training into one: it cultivated the roots and cast the soul through Marxist theory, nourished the original aspiration with red culture, and tempered character through practical activity. Going forward, the Party Committee of the School will continue to build on the strengths of the Marxist theory discipline, keep firmly in mind its original mission of educating people for the Party and the country, and keep innovating the carriers of ideological and political education, creating more ideological and political education activities that are distinctive, vivid and readily internalized, truly running ideological and political education through the entire process of student development and striving to cultivate new-era young people capable of shouldering the mission of national rejuvenation.
