    The School of Marxism Successfully Held the 2024 Orientation Ceremony and "First Lesson in Ideological and Political Education"

    On September 9, 2024, the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University held its Orientation Ceremony and "First Lesson in Ideological and Political Education" in the Humanities Building H-05. The event was attended by Professor Wang Hong, Secretary of the School’s Party Committee, Professor Liu Zhi, Dean of the School, Associate Professor Sun Tingting, Vice Dean, Professor Zhang Shoukui, Teacher Ren Heng, Deputy Secretary Wang Ping, as well as discipline leaders and all faculty members. Over 90 master’s students from the School participated in the event, which was chaired by Secretary Wang Hong.     

    Secretary Wang Hong delivered the opening speech at the orientation ceremony.

    Dean Liu Zhi delivered the "First Lesson in Ideological and Political Education" to all the students.

    Professor Zhang Shoukui, head of the History of Marxism program; Associate Professor Sun Tingting, head of the Ideological and Political Education program; Professor Wang Shuangyin, head of the Marxism in China program; Professor Wang Tianwen, head of the Basic Principles of Marxism program; and Professor Xu Jianhua, head of the Modern and Contemporary History of China program, each gave introductions to the development of their respective disciplines and expressed their high hopes for the new students. The professors spoke from four perspectives—morality, capability, scholarship, and vision—about the path to academic excellence for graduate students. They encouraged students to:

    1. Uphold moral integrity, acting with virtue and broad-mindedness, not only realizing personal value but also benefiting others.

    2. Develop skills and take practical action, continually enhancing abilities and learning techniques, striving for meaningful, successful, applicable, and enjoyable learning.

    3. Improve knowledge, especially as Marxist theory students, by regularly studying original texts. They emphasized the importance of reading the original works, learning the original writings, and understanding the core principles to strengthen theoretical foundations and academic depth.

    4. Cultivate foresight, aiming to be students with clear direction, true principles, high scholarship, and strong virtue, growing together with the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University.                     

    Discipline leaders offered their messages to the new students.

    Following this, Associate Dean Sun Tingting, Vice Dean Ren Heng, and Deputy Secretary Wang Ping provided targeted orientation on academic conduct, research, teaching, employment, and mental health. Associate Dean Sun Tingting advised students to maintain good time management and understand the central role of the thesis in the overall learning process. She urged them to plan early and communicate proactively with their advisors to ensure steady progress. Vice Dean Ren Heng emphasized the importance of mastering the ideological and political theory courses, assuring students that the faculty would create a supportive environment for reading and writing. He encouraged students to "read more, read well, and enjoy reading," and stressed the importance of applying theoretical knowledge in practice. Deputy Secretary Wang Ping provided detailed information about the employment situation of the 2024 cohort and encouraged students to maintain a positive attitude toward job hunting. She also emphasized the need to recognize and prevent telecom fraud, enhance fire safety awareness, and ensure personal and property safety. Additionally, she encouraged students to actively engage in social practice and public service to foster a sense of responsibility and mission, strengthen their sense of duty, and build a sense of belonging and identity.

                    

    Hold an Educational Conference for All Students of the School.

    Finally, Secretary Wang Hong, speaking on the theme of "Struggle · Growth · Happiness," expressed her heartfelt hopes for all students in the School. She also played an inspiring speech by Shenzhen University alumna Sun Yingsha, filled with youthful energy. She encouraged first-year graduate students, as the fresh blood of the School, to stay curious and bold in exploration. Second-year students were urged to take responsibility and lead new students with a sense of ownership of the School. Third-year students were reminded to stay true to their original aspirations, maintain their love and passion for life, and sail forward boldly. Together, the faculty and students of the School of Marxism will work to let their dreams shine brightly on the campus of Shenzhen University.

    After the orientation ceremony, Dean Liu Zhi delivered the "First Lesson in Ideological and Political Education" to all faculty and students, themed "Further Deepening Reform to Broaden the Prospects of Chinese-Style Modernization — In-Depth Study and Understanding of the Spirit of the 20th CPC Central Committee's Third Plenary Session." Dean Liu Zhi conveyed the key spirit and essence of the meeting with precision and clarity. He analyzed several relationships that need to be understood to grasp the core message of the session and encouraged students to set clear goals for each stage of their lives. He emphasized that life's value begins with dreams and is achieved through action. He urged students to align themselves with the high-level development of the University and School, seize the opportunities of the era, and create new prospects in a changing world by actively participating in reform practices.

    The journey of learning in Marxism continues, with new sparks passing from one generation to the next. The 2024 Orientation Ceremony and "First Lesson in Ideological and Political Education" concluded amid enthusiastic applause. The new semester has arrived, bringing with it new hopes and dreams. The entire faculty and students of the School of Marxism will continue to honor their commitment to Marxist principles with youthful energy and hard work.
