Speaker Biography

Smail Rapic
Professor Rapic holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Cologne and currently serves as Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wuppertal. His major research fields include Marxist theory and contemporary philosophy. His monographs include:

  • Cognition and Pragmatics: Lichtenberg and British Empiricism

  • Ethical Self-Understanding: Kierkegaard in Debate with Kantian Ethics and Hegel’s Philosophy of Right

  • Subjective Freedom and the Social System: On the Standpoint of Critical Social Theory from Rousseau to the Habermas–Luhmann Debate

  • Normativity and History: On the Debates between Apel and Habermas

He has also edited important volumes such as:

  • Habermas and Historical Materialism

  • Beyond Capitalism
