On the morning of April 14, the 591st lecture in the Shenzhen University 40th Anniversary Lecture Series was held in Room 2623, Huiwen Building, Yuehai Campus. Professor Luo Yuting, former Deputy Party Secretary of Wuhan University, Director of the Research Institute of Ideological and Political Education at Wuhan University, National Second-Level Professor, Ph.D. supervisor, and distinguished scholar, delivered a lecture titled "Growth and Development of Graduate Students in Marxist Theory." The event was hosted by Sun Tingting, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism, and attended by numerous students.
In his lecture, Professor Luo emphasized the recent achievements and emerging trends in the development of Marxist theory disciplines in the new era. He noted that graduate training is a vital component of discipline building, and that the personal growth of Marxist theory graduate students significantly impacts the discipline's development. Graduate students in Marxist theory should explore growth patterns aligned with the field’s unique characteristics to foster their development in ways that meet the discipline's needs.
Professor Luo then summarized the growth and development patterns of Marxist theory graduate students in four key principles. First, Virtue and Talent: Graduate students should hold a firm belief in Marxism, truly understand and embody Marxist principles, uphold idealism and correct political orientations, and possess good moral character. Second, Integration of Study and Research: Students should integrate learning and research in all aspects of academic life, including deep study of central theoretical advancements and Marxism's latest developments in China, especially as outlined by the 20th National Congress. Third, Unity of Knowledge and Practice: Students should not only master scientific Marxist theories but also apply Marxist principles to analyze and resolve real-world issues. Finally, Mutual Support of Self and Group: While independent study is essential, collective learning can complement individual efforts and enhance overall academic growth.
During the Q&A session, students engaged with Professor Luo, who offered patient and detailed responses. He also provided insightful guidance on academic paper topics and writing strategies. Sun Tingting concluded by thanking Professor Luo, noting the lecture’s depth, broad perspective, and inspiration for students aiming to understand the growth of graduate students in Marxist theory and improve their ability to use Marxist theory to analyze and address issues. She encouraged students to solidify their theoretical foundation, reinforce their ideological commitment, and stay dedicated to studying, believing in, and practicing Marxism. The lecture concluded successfully amid enthusiastic discussion and applause.
