On March 17, to commemorate the fifth anniversary of President Xi Jinping's important guidance at the symposium on ideological and political theory course teachers on March 18, 2019, the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University hosted the "Symposium on the Fifth Anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s 'March 18' Important Speech—Ideological and Political Theory Teaching Seminar for Universities in Shenzhen and Jiangxi" and the 2024 Forum of the Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Ideological and Political Theory Course Regional Collaborative Innovation Center. Professor Wang Hong, a member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen University Party Committee and Secretary of the School of Marxism, attended the seminar and delivered an opening speech. The seminar gathered 63 participants, including key scholars from ideological and political education at Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen Technology University, Shenzhen Polytechnic, Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology, and graduate students from the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University. The seminar was chaired by Fu Heming, Dean of the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University.
First, Professor Wang Hong warmly welcomed the teachers from Shenzhen and Jiangxi universities, emphasizing in her speech that the goal of the seminar was to deeply study and comprehend the essence of President Xi Jinping’s important speech. This gathering aimed to promote innovative development and teaching reform of ideological and political theory courses and to strengthen collaborative development in ideological and political education between Shenzhen and Jiangxi.
Next, five teachers from the Marxism schools of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology, and Shenzhen Polytechnic delivered teaching demonstrations, fostering an exchange of research achievements and teaching practices between universities in Shenzhen and Jiangxi. The presentations highlighted the research outcomes and practical experiences in ideological and political education at these universities. Teacher Li Dan presented "Diplomacy for the People—The Distinctive Character of Chinese Diplomacy," exploring the initiatives, urgencies, and objectives behind China’s diplomatic approach. Teacher Chen Nannan used the historical development of Jingdezhen’s ceramics industry to analyze socialist transformation. Teacher Guo Linsheng engaged in a discussion on why "communism as an ideal" is not a fallacy, emphasizing its historical inevitability. Teacher Fang Yu, with her topic "Nurturing Growth, Illuminating Life," examined the effectiveness of multi-faceted approaches in ideological and political theory courses. Lastly, Teacher Ye Ge conducted an interactive experiential lesson on "Internalizing and Practicing Democracy," using classroom examples like class representative elections and community issue resolution to illustrate the advantages of people-centered democracy.
Following the teaching demonstrations, Deng Xianchao, Dean of the School of Marxism at Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, and Wang Dejun, Director of the Center for Ideological and Political Education at Southern University of Science and Technology, each gave special guidance reports. Their presentations delved into key issues in ideological and political course construction and reform, inspired by President Xi’s "March 18" speech, focusing on deepening course reform, improving teaching effectiveness, and enhancing students' ideological and political literacy.
In conclusion, Dean Fu Heming delivered a summary speech, stating that this seminar provided an invaluable platform for teachers from Shenzhen and Jiangxi universities to exchange ideas and learn from one another. He highlighted that sharing teaching experiences, exploring methodologies, and reflecting on teaching achievements would enhance the quality and effectiveness of ideological and political theory courses. Moving forward, the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University will continue its mission to lead regional collaborative innovation in ideological and political courses. It will deepen understanding of President Xi Jinping’s vision for ideological and political education, strengthen collaboration between universities in Shenzhen and Jiangxi, and strive to improve the effectiveness of ideological and political theory courses.
