    Selection Guidelines for the 2024 School of Marxism Scholarship Program to Support Outstanding Graduate Students in Overseas Study and Exchange Programs

    In accordance with the minutes of the University President's Office Meeting (Shenzhen University Memorandum [2024] No. 64) and the notice from the Graduate School regarding "Supporting Outstanding Graduate Students for Overseas Study and Exchange in 2024," the School of Marxism has initiated a program to sponsor outstanding graduate students for overseas study and exchange. The following guidelines have been established for the selection process.


     I. Basic Eligibility Criteria for Sponsored Candidates

    1. Candidates must be outstanding full-time master's students currently enrolled in the School of Marxism.

    2. Sponsored candidates must support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, comply with laws and regulations, have good character, excel academically, and demonstrate strong learning and research innovation abilities. In principle, candidates should be under 35 years of age.

    3. The study and exchange research focus of the sponsored candidates should, in principle, align with their personal or supervisor’s (or team’s) research direction and ongoing research projects.


     II. Scope of Overseas Host Institutions

    1. To fully implement the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao joint training program and achieve effective sharing and deep integration of talent and research resources across the three regions, the range of host institutions in Hong Kong and Macao is specified as follows:

      (1) Hong Kong: The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Education University of Hong Kong.

      (2) Macao: University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, City University of Macau.

    2. For institutions in other countries or regions, the host university must be ranked within the top 300 in at least two of the four major global university rankings (THE, QS, US News, ARWU).


    III. Number of Recommended Candidates

    There is no limit on the number of recommended candidates.


    IV. Application Process and Timeline

    1. September 11 - September 17: Individual Application. Master's students who wish to apply must complete the "2024 Shenzhen University Outstanding Graduate Students Overseas Study and Exchange Funding Application Form" and attach the invitation letter from the overseas institution (including electronic versions). All materials must be submitted to Room 1624, Huiwen Building, by September 17.


    2. September 18 - September 25: Initial Selection, Public Announcement, and Submission of Materials. The School will conduct an initial selection to determine the recommended candidates. If necessary, a live defense may be organized. The list of selected candidates will be ranked by score and publicly announced within the School for no less than three working days. After the public announcement, the School will fill out the "2024 Shenzhen University Outstanding Graduate Students Overseas Study and Exchange Funding Recommended Candidates List" (see attachment) and submit it, along with individual application materials, to the Graduate School Office by September 25.


    V. Additional Notes

    1. The duration of the study and exchange program is 3 to 12 months (funding is available for up to 12 months).

    2. Students who receive funding and then withdraw without a valid reason will, in principle, not be eligible to apply again during their time at the university.

    3. Due to the large funding amounts involved, the School will strictly follow the Graduate School's "Notice on Supporting Outstanding Graduate Students for Overseas Study and Exchange in 2024" and the guidelines set by the School. The selection process will be conducted in a fair, just, and open manner.

    4. Students who have already received funding from other programs are not eligible for duplicate funding.

    5. Any other important updates will be based on the latest notifications from the Graduate School.
