On the morning of September 3, a grand ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was solemnly held at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. To remember history, honor the martyrs, and carry forward the great spirit of the War of Resistance, the faculty and students of the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University gathered in Room 1600 of the Huiwen Building to watch the live broadcast of the ceremony and military parade. On the morning of September 4, the school organized a follow-up discussion session in the same venue, during which Professor Wang Hong, member of the University Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism, delivered the first Ideological and Political Theory Lecture of the 2025 Fall Semester. The event was attended by Wang Ping, Deputy Party Secretary; Bian Kebing, counselor; and over thirty student representatives.

At the beginning of the session, Professor Wang Hong shared social media reflections posted by several athletes who had attended the military parade. She emphasized that the Communist Party of China (CPC) is the core force leading the Chinese people in achieving national independence, liberation, and rejuvenation. Upholding the Party’s leadership, she stressed, is both a historical and a people’s choice.

She called on all participants to draw the most fundamental and essential lesson from history — to strengthen the “Four Consciousnesses”, reinforce the “Four Confidences”, and achieve the “Two Upholds”, maintaining a high degree of ideological, political, and practical alignment with the CPC Central Committee to ensure that all endeavors advance in the right direction.
Professor Wang encouraged teachers and students to transform the spirit of the War of Resistance into motivation for progress and put forward four expectations:
Strengthen ideals and convictions — deeply study the Party’s innovative theories, promote the spirit of the War of Resistance, and solidify the foundation of faith.
Cultivate patriotism and national sentiment — integrate personal aspirations into the great cause of building and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Be courageous and diligent — take responsibility, devote oneself to scholarship, and pursue rigorous study and research.
Uphold peace and development — remember the lessons of history, cherish peace, and contribute to safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests, as well as maintaining world peace and promoting common progress.

“As both a graduate student in Marxist theory and a veteran, watching the 80th anniversary parade stirred deep emotions. It reminded me of my days in the military — the training, the camaraderie, the duty. Though retired, the passion and sense of mission within me remain. I will bring that discipline into my academic life, study Marxist theory with rigor, and turn theory into action through social practice to contribute to my country’s development.”

“As students of Marxist theory, we often discuss ideals, faith, and patriotism abstractly in textbooks. Today, through the parade, these concepts became vivid and alive.”

“From rifles and bayonets to advanced technology and powerful equipment, every upgrade in the parade reflects the extraordinary achievements of national defense modernization under the Party’s leadership. We must use our expertise to promote technological innovation and infuse youth energy into the defense of peace.”

“When the veteran soldiers saluted firmly despite their frailty, I felt the temperature of history. The fire and blood of 80 years ago forged the backbone of our nation, and today’s steel formation continues that faith. As students of Marxism, we must interpret the spirit of the War of Resistance through the lens of Marxism and cultivate deep patriotism in our theoretical research.”

“The true ‘Great Wall of Steel’ lies not just in weaponry, but in the soldiers’ courage — their resolve to move forward even unto death — and the scientists’ perseverance in silent dedication. As Marxism students, we must build ideological defenses with the power of truth and win the battle of faith in cyberspace.”

“When 80,000 doves of peace were released, I thought of the blood and sacrifice that built today’s peace. Peace and strength are not opposites — displaying power is not about domination, but about demonstrating our determination to safeguard peace.”

“The best way to remember history is to hold peace closer and raise justice higher. As a new graduate student in Marxist theory, I hope to channel this passion into studying the Party’s innovative theories, exploring its glorious history, and telling its story well.”

“The baton of history will eventually pass to our hands. As General Secretary Xi Jinping said: ‘We fight for the survival of the nation, the rejuvenation of the people, and the justice of humanity.’ As Marxism scholars, we must also ‘research for truth, innovate theory, and shoulder our era’s mission.’”

“The banner once defended by the martyrs is now carried by the youth of the new era. We must integrate our personal dreams into the great journey of Chinese modernization and write our patriotic answer sheets through rural revitalization and theoretical outreach.”

“The slogan of a ‘Community with a Shared Future for Mankind’ flying alongside doves of peace made me realize the peaceful essence of China’s military strength. As students of ideological and political education, we should tell the story of China’s contribution to world peace and embody the pledge, ‘Rest assured, Party — the nation’s strength lies with us.’”

“The sinicization of Marxism mirrors the technological breakthroughs behind the parade’s equipment — theory guiding practice, and practice enriching theory. We must delve into classical Marxist works while engaging with new fields such as intelligent warfare and cyberspace, allowing Marxism to shine with contemporary vitality.”

“To remember history and honor the martyrs is to strengthen ourselves. The spirit of the War of Resistance still inspires us. As students of Marxist theory, we must enhance our political awareness, solidify our theoretical foundation, and keep striving — success may not be mine, but my efforts will surely contribute to it.”
In her concluding remarks, Deputy Party Secretary Wang Ping emphasized that students of the School of Marxism are both learners and disseminators of the Party’s innovative theories. She urged them to deeply comprehend the essence of the War of Resistance spirit and integrate it into their academic research and learning, using the power of theory to interpret and promote this spirit.
Wang encouraged the students to recognize that today’s “battlefields” extend far beyond warfare — they exist in chip development, rural revitalization, environmental protection, and classrooms. She called on them to uphold unity, creativity, and responsibility in these domains.
Finally, she urged the students to take the emotional impact of the parade as a new starting point — to remember history, embrace the era, and strengthen their resolve in the belief that “the nation’s strength lies with me.” By diligently cultivating their abilities and taking concrete action, they will honor this solemn commitment to contribute to national rejuvenation.
