The School of Marxism Successfully Held a Lecture on Strengthening the Basic Teaching Skills of Ideological and Political Theory Teachers

    Date:2025-03-26

On the morning of March 13, 2025, at 9:00 AM, the "Teaching Master Series Talks on the Quality Improvement Project of Ideological and Political Theory Courses in Universities (Session 1)" was successfully held in the Huiwen Building, Room 1600. The event was jointly organized by the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University, the Research Institute for Reform and Opening Up at Shenzhen University, and the Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Ideological and Political Theory Course Regional Collaborative Innovation Center. The talk invited Professor Wang Shuyin from Beijing Normal University as the keynote speaker, who shared insights with the faculty of the School of Marxism on the topic of "Strengthening the Basic Teaching Skills of Ideological and Political Theory Teachers."

Professor Wang elaborated on the three key qualities that ideological and political theory teachers should possess: research, teaching, and publicity. Drawing from his own teaching practice and research experience, he systematically analyzed the core competencies required for the development of ideological and political theory teachers, including theoretical literacy, teaching methods, and staying abreast of the cutting edge of the discipline. He emphasized that ideological and political education in the new era must keep pace with the times and improve the effectiveness of classrooms through innovative thinking. Professor Wang stressed that teachers should not only have solid research capabilities but also possess excellent teaching skills and effective publicity abilities. He further highlighted the importance of discipline construction by presenting the list of nationally key Marxist schools and forecasting the selection of the fourth batch of national key Marxist schools.

Professor Wang also discussed how to select a good lesson, emphasizing that an effective course should not try to cover everything but instead focus on addressing the primary issues, such as the contradiction between the abundance of content in the textbook and the limited teaching hours. He pointed out that ideological and political theory courses should be distinct from general ideological courses or moral education courses. They should not simply follow the textbook chapters but should clearly define teaching objectives, grasp the system and essence of the material, and maintain a balance between comprehensiveness, systematization, and emphasis on key points, focusing on the important, difficult, hot, and focal issues.

In addition, Professor Wang shared how to improve teaching quality through the submission of research projects. He introduced various types of research projects, including the National Social Science Fund projects, Ministry of Education projects, and Beijing Social Science Planning Office projects. He emphasized that the selection of topics should adhere to the correct political direction, value orientation, and academic focus, targeting major theoretical and practical issues and balancing both basic and applied research.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Wang interacted with the teachers present, answering questions related to teaching and research. As a frontier of ideological and political theory course reform and innovation in universities, Shenzhen University has been continuously strengthening the construction of its Marxist theory discipline. This lecture not only provided a valuable learning and exchange platform for faculty and students but also offered new ideas and methods to improve the quality of ideological and political theory courses. Ren Heng, the Associate Dean of the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University, expressed that the university will continue to deepen the "Teaching Master Series Talks" brand activities, gathering high-quality educational resources and contributing to the creation of exemplary "golden courses" in ideological and political education.
