At dusk of November 18, the second session of “Starry Night Talks” activities was held successfully on the lawn of Yuanping Gymnasium. The theme was “Learning and implementing the spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress and forging ahead together for a new journey”. The activity was jointly organized by the Party Committee ofthe Marxism College, the Party Committee of College of Civil and Transportation Engineering, the Party Committee of College of Mechatronics and Control Engineering, and the Party Committee of College of Electronics and Information Engineering. Wang Hong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Shenzhen University & Secretary of the Party Committee of The Marxism College, attended the activity and delivered a speech. Chen Bixia, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of College of Civil and Transportation Engineering; Chen Yiming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of The Marxism College; Liao Chen, Director of the Graduate Teaching and Research Office of The Marxism College, Bian Kebing, Counselor of The Marxism College, Xie Dongdong, Party Building Organizer of The Marxism College; Lin Qianqian, Party Building Organizer of College of Civil and Transportation Engineering, Ye Dongwei, Counselor of College of Civil and Transportation Engineering; Liao Lili, Counselor of College of Mechatronics and Control Engineering; Long Fei, Counselor of College of Electronics and Information Engineering, and more than 140 teachers and students from the four colleges participated in the activity.
Amidst laughter and the shimmering lights, Wang Hong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Shenzhen University & Secretary of the Party Committee of The Marxism College, deliveredthe opening speech. Wang Hong said, General Secretary Xi Jinping’s report on the Party’s 20thNational Congress has pointed out the way forward for youth work in the new era. Young student workers, such as ideological and political teachers, political counselors, and Party building organizers, should learn and implement the spirit of the Party’s 20thNational Congress, unswervingly arming young people with the Party’s scientific theories, inspiring them with the Party’s original mission to become intimate friends of young people, enthusiastically support their work andand guides for young people. The Starry Night Talks” activities take a novel mode of “Party building + camping”, with the main purpose of following the spirit of the Party’s 20thNational Congress to improve the effectiveness of Party member education and young student work, guide teachers and students to always maintain a pioneering spirit state, and create a striving collective of firm belief, lofty ideal and excellent quality. Wang Hong said, “Starry Night Talks”, lively in form and serious in content, expect that teachers and students can deeply learn and comprehend the spirit of the Party’s 20thNational Congress in a pleasant state of mind and body, exchange ideas, promote learning and enrich themselves. Wang Hong called on everyone to listen to the Party, follow the Party, embrace dreams and be down-to-earth, and aspire to be a good young person who has a sense of responsibility and works hard to realize their goals, demonstrating the spiritual outlook of students at Shenzhen University.
With the warm applause and cheers, Wang Hong announced the official start of this activity.
Liao Chen, a teacher of Ideological and political course fromthe Marxism College, gave alecture on “Starry Micro PartyLessons”, sharing his views and opinions with the students from two aspects: fourself-confidences and striving to be the hero of the times. Liao Chen said that learning and implementing the spirit of the Party’s 20thNational Congress and holding firm to “four confidences” are the due meaning of our efforts to becomeoutstanding young people in the new era. He quoted Liang Qichao’s “Two Heroes Theory” and called on the students to be the heroes of the times and the backbone of the nation, and to win glory on the broad stage of the world with the concrete practice of hard work.
The subsequent “Promote learning through competition to enhance thought and consensus; promoting action through learning to present splendor and open up a new pattern” knowledge contest covered such contents as the report of the Party’s 20thNational Congress, the Party’s history, etc., and three students from each of the four colleges drew lots to form four teams to participate in three aspects: answering randomly selected questions in sequence; quickly answering questions on the spot, and answering questions with the help of friends and relatives. The atmosphere of the scene was intense and wonderful, with the winner identified in the extra round. The outstanding performance of each team fully demonstrated the students’ hard study on the report of the Party’s 20thNational Congress, the Party’s history, and the ideological and political theory course. The students sitting around also had a great study in the tense and happy atmosphere. Accompanied by applauses and cheers, the guests presented certificates and gifts to the winning team, and took a group photo.
Following the knowledge contest, it was the breezy game interaction “See pictures to learn the history of the Party and recall the original aspiration”, which was planned by the Party Committee of College of Civil and Transportation Engineering. The activity adopted a two-person challenge system. In each round of the game, two students respectively answered questions corresponding to the Party history according to the pictures provided, and the studentwho answered morequestions correctly won.Students participated enthusiastically Andlearnedaboutthe major historical events in the century-old Party history by reviewing the clear historical pictures. They gained a deeper understanding ofthe storms and trials that the Communist Party of China has gone through,andfelt the powerful energy of the Party's history. Thistruly achieved the purpose of enhancing confidence andputting into practice through learning history.
The second game, “Looking Back on Red Memories to Create Precious Moments” puzzle game prepared by the College of Mechatronics and Control Engineering, makes a jigsaw puzzle of some important scenes in the development history of the Communist Party of China, designed to let teachers and students recall the history of the Party and carry forward the red spirit during the puzzle game. This game adopted a team challenge mode, i.e. 2-3 persons were free to form a team, and put the pieces of the puzzle back together within the specified time; finally, according to the length of the time of each team to complete the game, the ranking would be calculated, and the corresponding prizes would be awarded. Students were full of passion to join the game, and in those pieces of the puzzle and all complete pictures, the Party’s 100-yearstorms seemed to be in sight. Through the jigsaw puzzle, the students were more clear about the details of the pictures and better understood the century-old history of the Party.
The third game, “Experience the years of war and forge aheadinto the future” designed by the College of Electronics and Information Engineering, was composed of three small games: shooting a gun (shooting the target with soft bullets from a toy submachine gun), collecting water from a minefield (5 persons worked together to collect water from a minefield) and grenade charge (throwing sandbags to cover the team to the target), with the purpose to make the students more clearly understand why the Communist Party of China was successful in the past and what it relied on to achieve success, allow the students to experience the course of struggle of the Chinese people led by the Communist Party of China, and encourage the students to continue to work hard and forge ahead bravely.
Each of the three games had distinguishing features, which could help the students enhance friendship, comprehend the team spirit, and improve the ability of cooperation in the course of teamwork, and could also help the students carefully review the century-old Party history, deeply feel the powerful energy in the Party, continue to strengthen confidence, and always keep in mind the “three musts”; always keep persistent in practice; continue to strive forward, earnestly strengthen “four consciousnesses”, stay firm to “four confidences”, achieve “two maintenances”, unswervingly “listen to the Party, feel the Party’s kindness, follow the Party”, strive to be confident and determined Chinese youth in the new era, and make contributions to Shenzhen University, Shenzhen and China.
This activity also prepared extra surprises for the teachers and students on site, that is, the top three students who participated in the most interactive games and won the most times were the strongest Kings to receive a beautiful gift.
Finally, under the starry sky, all the teachers and students sang songs like “The Brightest Star in the Night Sky”, with the tipsy November night breeze encountering the crisp melodious bell. The teachers and students of each college reluctantly said goodbye, and the activity ended successfully.
The “Starry Night Talks” activities integrated the contents of learning and implementing the spirit of the Party’s 20thNational Congress, Party history education, Party member education, Party & League building, ideological and political education, mental health education, employment guidance and other related contents in novel and lively forms. On the basis of the successful holding of the first activity “Ideological and political + camping”, this activity made innovation by carrying out the “Party building + camping” sessions, aiming to learn and implement the spirit of the Party’s 20thNational Congress, carry forward the main melody of “forging ahead on a new journey and making contributions in a new era”, sing the strong voice of “rejuvenating the nation with my force”, and organically combine the ideological and political education and Party & League education with the popular camping culture of being close to nature,going green, harmony, leisure and relaxation, so as to carry out the work of fostering virtues and cultivating talents in colleges and universities through an inspiring way.
